A Complete blog for tourism guide in Nepal

[Tilicho Lake] The main focus of this trek is a visit to Tilicho Lake.

Destination: Tilicho Lake

The main focus of this trek is a visit to Tilicho Lake. Thats why it is named as Tilicho Lake trekking. Other major attractions of Tilicho Lake trekking are the eye-catching view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges and other white Himalayas above 5,415m height, peaceful Thorong La pass, and the local ethnic people, mostly Tibetan origin. Thorong La is the highest pass on the Annapurna Circuit. The major ethnic groups to be visited in this trekking are Magar, Gurung, Bhotia and Thakalis and Managis with distinct socio-economic and cultural background.

The best time to visit Tilicho Lake on spring and autumn.

How to reach?

Tilicho Lake Trekking starts right from Besisahar as Annapurna Circuit Trekking, which goes along the Marshyangdi River, with great views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli to the east. This magnificent Tilicho lake trekking leads you to the fine village inhabited by a wide diversity of people from different ethnic groups, offering spectacular and majestic views of the white Himalayas.

Among the most beautiful trips in Manang belong a two-day trip to the high mountain lake Tilicho, so you will be surprised that it is undertaken only by a fraction of people setting out for the trek around Annapurnas. On this trek you will get virtually within reach to Gangapurna and Tilicho peak, whose walls fall directly to the south side of the lake.

DAY 1

The typical schedule of the trip to lake Tilicho shows the walk from Manang to Tilicho BC for the first day. But this stage can be slightly shortened so that after completion of acclimatization trips you walk the same afternoon to Khangsar and here you can use these about 2 hours in the morning.

For someone just a short acclimatization walk from Manang to picturesque village of Khangsar (3 760m asl.) and back. For others starting point to lake Tilicho. Anyway, it is a nice walk along river Marsyangdi through valley of weathered rocks and view of Annapurna II.

The walk from the nice village of Khangsar (3760 m asl) in the direction to mysterious lake Tilicho leads through an interesting or occasionally even surrealistic landscape of weathered slopes and rocks. Along the way there is a beautiful view of many interesting mountains. Especially black rock Khangsar Kang (7485 m asl) towering over Great Barrier is often admired.

DAY 2

The second day is the best on this walk. You will finally see the magical lake Tilicho (if you spent the night in Khangsar, it is possible to manage even quicker variant Khagsar – Tilicho BC – Tilicho – Tilicho BC in one day, but you will then have little time for the lake itself, because there is very quickly shade here and so it is definitely better to set out from Tilicho BC in the morning for the whole day).

TIP: If you are very experienced or have a guide and at the same time do not want to go for some reason through Thorong la pass, you can set out from lake Tilicho through the pass Mesokanto la directly to Jomsom.

One of the nicest mountain experiences during the trek around Annapurnas is the wander to the stunning Tilicho lake. This two-day detour from the main circuit will take you to places, where the Himalayan giants are almost at touch. The lake seems to lay on the boundary of two worlds. On one hand side there is bare and weathered landscape and on the other impossibly steep sides of Himalayan peaks, towering two kilometers above the lake and directly from it. Unfortunately, there is usually the worst weather of the Manang, so there may not be always clear cloudless views of the mountains and lake.

DAY 3

The third day, you can either return the same way to Manang. But more interesting alternative with amazing views of the mountain is the shortcut over Upper Kangsar (although only in the case you do not have to return to Manang).

For tourists returning from a trip to Lake Tilicho is much more practical and moreover even nicer not to go the same way back to Manang, but to go along the top route through the village of spirits - Upper Khangsar and then go down directly to Yak Kharka through the beautiful small outlook cliff high above the river valley. In addition, this path is the least often walked by the tourists trekking around Annapurnas.
